Sharon took her first mission trip to the Dominican Republic in 2012. She returned home from her trip forever broken and deeply burdened by what God showed her. With her heart torn, Sharon now leads several mission trips per year, works to get each child in the villages she sees educated, trains the women of the villages to sew and raise goats to sell, and teaches families to become self sufficient in providing for their family and village. As of 2017, there are 272 children attending school versus the 9 children attending when she started just 5 years ago.
God took hold of our hearts during our first missions trip to Guatemala in 2011. We returned to the U.S. and all of our hopes, dreams, and desires were radically changed to want to serve God’s people in Guatemala. He used our skills, desires, and experience to guide us to His true calling upon our lives. You can read more about this story and the ministry He has called to by checking out our ministry page at Uniting 2 Serve.
We’d like to invite you to partner with us through prayer as we continue to share our experiences and bridge the gap between Guatemala and our home country. To learn more about those ministries and stay updated on how Jesus is allowing us to further His Kingdom in Guatemala please subscribe to our newsletter. God’s presence in Guatemala and His plan for the Guatemalan people is a miracle that all should witness.
In October of 2014, God began transforming my life in ways I never knew possible. I was born and raised in Kentucky. I had just graduated Western Kentucky University with a Degree in Social Work, got engaged to my husband Nolan, and was a case manager for the homeless. “My” life and “my” plan seemed to be falling into place, until God called us here to Red Lion for my husband’s church position. I was immediately surrounded with comfort and assurance that this was where God wanted us. It is amazing how God’s plan can be completely different than our own, yet greater than we could have ever imagined!
In March, 2015 Nolan and I got married, made our move to Pennsylvania, and I began my journey at Servants. I could not be more blessed to be a part of such an incredible ministry! Through this transition, I have learned to truly rely and trust in God, and cling to His words for encouragement, strength and guidance in every aspect of my life. When we surrender ourselves to Him and trust in His plan for our life, we glorify Him and He will provide all that we need. Please pray for this ministry, as it continues to grow and many more people get the opportunity to know Him. Pray that God gives me the right words to say to those who are struggling and feel hopeless. Please pray for Nolan and I, that we are able to make an impact with our talents and passion God has given us. Thank you all for your continued prayers over our ministry and our missionaries who serve with us!
Trent Davis founded Servants in May of 2000. Trent had been working as a CPA in Baltimore, MD when he heard God's call to start an organization that would help connect people in need with people that want to serve.
Trent has been married to his wife Susan for 25 years. They have a 21-year old daughter Aubree, a 19-year old son Levi, and a 16-year old son Micah.
Trent has led over 40 mission trips to Guatemala as well as teams to India, Haiti and in the Gulf Coast of the USA. Trent is passionate about seeing others serve and especially enjoys seeing people fall in love with missions for the first time.
Towards the end of February 2014, I really felt God telling me he had other plans for me. Where He had me as far as employment was only temporary. I really had no idea what to make of this feeling that was growing inside me. I talked to my wife about it and Alicia and I began praying about the situation. In April, I went on my first Kingdom Builders disaster recovery trip through Servants. Needless to say, it was awesome and it validated what was already brewing inside of me. After doing a couple more Kingdom Builders projects, I really felt a push from God to serve within the Servants organization. Time went on and Alicia became involved in Servant's Budget Counseling Ministry, which offers counseling to the same clients involved in Servants Home Helps Ministry. One day after a Kingdom Builders Saturday workday, I was driving back to church with a friend. During the ride I expressed my desire to serve more with Servants. He encouraged me to continue to pray for God's will in this situation. He said that if it's God's will for me then it will be. After this, the desire continued to wear on my heart and I continued to pray for God's will. In late August I received an email from Trent Davis saying that he heard I had some interest in the ministry. Wow!! We met a couple days later. Alicia and I continued to pray. God made it clear to both of us that this is the direction He wanted me to go. It's cool looking back at my life and the events that have happened in the past. I can see how God put all of the pieces together. I now know why God placed a strong desire in me to be a carpenter at a young age and why I'm more comfortable wearing a tool belt than a tie.
I am overwhelmed with excitement to begin this journey as a full-time U.S. missionary with Servant's Home Helps Ministry. With me on this journey is my wife, Alicia, and my children; Madison, Mason, and Maybreigh. Pray that nothing and no one will distract me from the vision that God has placed in my heart. Pray for God to give me understanding to know how to minister to those in need and who are lost. Please pray for God to fill me with His love so that I may love my neighbor. None of us are meant to selfishly hoard God's love. We are meant to be a channel for God's love to shine through to everyone. Thank you for all your prayers and encouragement.
In September 2010, along with his wife Chris, Bobby heard God calling to go on a transformation trip to Guatemala after attending a Servants presentation. The transformation trip in January 2011 to Guatemala brought Bobby and Chris closer to God and a renewed desire to serve God more directly.
Bobby has been married to Chris Gohn for 20 years. They have an 18-year old son, Benjamin, and a 15-year old daughter, Laura.
God has blessed Bobby with over twenty years of technical and operational experience that he puts to use as he serves. Bobby enjoys watching the spark that only God can provide when both the person being served and the person serving experience God's love and peace together.
In 2011, Chris took her first mission. God broke her heart for the families in Guatemala and families in her own community. After volunteering for several years, Chris finally left the corporate world to follow God's calling to Servants.
Chris has been married to Bobby Gohn since 1997 and they have a son attending Penn State University and a daughter who is thriving in the arts and who makes an awesome pumpkin pie. Both kids are very active in their youth group, their community, and with helping others.
Chris loves seeing our volunteers interact with our homeowners, our families, and our staff. What a blessing to see someone's heart melt when they see first-hand whose life they changed.
